Governor Dave Heineman presents 2011 Showcase Community award
to Mayor Paul Lambert and other Plattsmouth city officials.

Plattsmouth (pop. 6,507) - Plattsmouth adopted a comprehensive development plan (PLAN) in 2004 that prioritized the community’s geographic proximity to the Omaha metropolitan area; the historic downtown on the National Register of Historic Places and its economic importance; quality neighborhoods with affordable housing; and the creation of new jobs and businesses. Since then the city has pursued a number of projects, including awarding grants and loans to start-up and expanding businesses, including New Idea Inc., New Age Prototypes, Fusion Custom Trailers, Schott Enterprises, and Vireo Resources; rehabilitating the Fitzgerald Building on the National Register of Historic Places; rehabilitated 13 homes and built new housing through a CDBG Owner Occupied HOME Rehabilitation Program; and is currently undergoing  major downtown rehabilitation with a $350,000 CDBG. The City also has made good use of its LB840, Local Option Sales Tax, coupled with other local and state funding to purchase and create FourMile Industrial, the City’s designated industrial park, build a new $6 million Senior and Community Center, and a $1.7 million addition to the fire station, among other projects. Welcome to Plattsmouth!

welcomeFounded in 1854, we are one of Nebraska’s oldest cities. Plattsmouth is rich in history and culture. Situated at the confluence of the Missouri and Platte rivers, Plattsmouth has a place in the discovery of the west. The Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery passed the mouth of the Platte River, just north of what is now Main Street Plattsmouth, on July 21, 1804. Our City seal reads “Honor the Past, Plan for the Future.”

Plattsmouth proudly offers a full range of excellent city services, including police; volunteer fire and rescue; public works which includes water, sewer, streets, parks, and grounds/facilities maintenance. So that we are prepared for the future, we recently expanded the fire and rescue department with a $1.7 million expansion that includes meeting rooms, a kitchen, and sleeper rooms. Our new $5.7 million Senior and Community Center serves more than 1,000 local area citizens who visit more than 12,000 times per week. Twin Rivers Water Park, Rhylander Park, Garfield Park, Memorial Park, and all other parks/recreation facilities and our excellent library add services and lifestyle qualities so that Plattsmouth’s citizens and our visitors have superior places to live, work, and play.
