I am exceptionally proud to be Plattsmouth's Mayor. We have a great community that offers a small town feel, yet due to our proximity to the Omaha metropolitan area, we are close to
everything a large city offers.

We have a lot going on in Plattsmouth. Let me share with you some of our accomplishments the past several years:

  • To rehabilitate and save the historic Highway 34 bridge, Plattsmouth created the Plattsmouth Bridge Commission which then negotiated purchase terms with the private bridge company. Following rehabilitation, the bridge reopened to traffic in April 2008.
  • Plattsmouth Community and Senior Center construction completed in 2008. Total capital investment of $6million plus. Community/Senior Center visits exceed 9,000 per week.
  • Plattsmouth fIre station addition completed in 2008. Capital investment of $1.7 million.
  • Empty Fitzgerald Building taken from default to market rate apartment/condos. Elevator installation is underway.
  • Housing Reuse Funds in excess of $60,000 put to use by combining with a Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) Housing Rehabilitation grant of $247,000 to rehab at least 11 homes.
  • Plattsmouth made CDBG job creation loans to Custom Fusion Trailers, New Age Prototypes and Vireo Resources.
  • Granted land to Schott Enterprises for job creation (spec building in which Vireo Resources located).
  • Installed water line to the City's industrial park (Fourmile Industrial).
  • Approved preliminary platting of Wiles Crossing.
  • Approved replatting of Morehead Island to Castaway Pointe Estates and Villas.
  • Construction of 500,000 gallon water tower is underway to replace a 100 year old 285,000 gallon water standpipe that had only 85,000 gallon useful capacity. This project is funded through a 20 year 3.3% SRF loan.
  • Secured a $1.2 million federal earmark toward construction of the sewer separation project. Construction is to COmmence late spring or early summer 2010.
  • Participated in the reorganization of Cass County Nebraska Economic Development Council with a $15,000 annual contribution.
  • Received DED designation as an Economic Development Certified Community.
  • Secured $19,500 in downtown revitalization planning grant funds from DED, making Plattsmouth eligible for up to $350,000 of implementation grant funding.
  • Design engineering of Phase 1 of the Sewer Separation Project is underway (Main Street 6th to 1st at an estimated cost of $2.3 million).
  • Solicited RFQs for housing consultants to guide the City through development of a
    comprehensive housing plan (targeted start date of March 2010).
  • Placed a question on the ballot to remove the sunset on existing I% sales tax (one-half for economic development and one-half for property tax relief) and to impose a new .05% restricted to street and sidewalk improvements and maintenance. 69% of those voting said "yes" to impose the new .05% and 61% of those voting said "yes" to removing the sunset.
  • Design engineering of downtown streetscape improvements has commenced. Construction is planned to commence late spring or early summer.
  • With funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, conducted an assessment of Plattsmouth emergency medical services (EMS).
  • Created an Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board which is charged with strategic planning and making recommendations related to the shortage of qualified EMS volunteers.
  • Drafted historic district guidelines and completed a Main Street building facade survey.
  • Aggressive nuisance and property code enforcement (more than 450 properties since January 2009 with 95% voluntary compliance).
  • Rhy1ander and Garfield Park improvements and restorations resulting in capital investment in excess of$100,000.
  • Plattsmouth is a wonderful place to live, work, and play. We are moving forward by honoring our past. Please, come tour Plattsmouth.
