Storytimes are presented at 10:00 am on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Children in third through sixth grades can enjoy fun challenges and activities during TinkerSpace on Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 pm, in the library. Beginning January 11, children will be creating and playing with puzzles and games. Some of the games are from Breakout EDU which teaches critical thinking, teamwork, and complex problem solving.
The program is free and open to any children in grades 3 through 6. No registration is required; drop-ins are welcome. The library will also provide snacks.
The third session begins in March and features LittleBits creations. Call Kirsten Wood at 402-296-4154 x21 if you have any questions.
This program is sponsored by the Nebraska Library Commission and funded in part with state funds allocated through the Nebraska Legislature.
Children can play XBox and Wii games on the following days provided the auditorium is not booked for other events. Summer hours may vary.
The library has purchased four Launchpads, tablets pre-loaded with high-quality, ad-free learning apps created just for children. They are available for checkout, just like books, movies, and magazines.
Each Launchpad has a different set of apps, with at least 10 apps on each device. The 7” high-definition touch screen and external speaker are protected by a durable protective case. Three devices are designed for children aged 5-7 years old; one device is designed for children 3-5 years old.
All you need is a library card to check out one of the devices. Don’t have a library card yet? If you live in Plattsmouth, the card is free; outside the city limits, the cards cost $30 per family.
Visit the children’s department or call 402-296-4154 x21 if you have any questions.
Congratulations to Miah Dasovic , daughter of Jeremiah and Jenny Dasovic, of Plattsmouth! Together they read 1,000 books and earned a special copy of the classic book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. The library only gives out these books to children completing the free program "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten."
Get your child interested in lifelong learning and reading early with the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program. It’s an exciting and fun way to kick-start your child's success in school.
Each child will receive a very simple reading record. Every book read to your child – by you, during library storytime, at a daycare, by family members – counts towards the total. You can even count the same book more than once if you read it more than once. Simply cross out a picture in the reading log to indicate you’ve read a book. After 100 books are read, bring the reading record to the library for a special sticker and a new reading record. Reach the goal of a 1000 books, and your child will receive a brand new book with a special sticker inside.
