What is the library's mission statement?

The Plattsmouth Public Library serves the educational, informational, and entertainment needs of the community by providing a balanced and friendly environment with open access to resources.

Who can get a library card?

Anyone can get a library card. If you live within the City limits (as outlined on this map), your card is free. If you live outside the City limits, there is an annual $30 fee per family for library service. For $30, all members of the family living at that address can get a card.

How can you get a library card?

Bring a picture ID with your current address to the library. If you have recently moved, bring a picture ID and a utility bill or rental agreement showing your current address. If you are too young to have a picture ID, your parent must accompany you and bring the required identification. If you have any questions, please call the library.

What does the library charge if I don't bring an item back on time?

The library does not charge fines for returning an item late. If you call the library before the item is due or on the due date, you may be able to renew it over the phone, provided no one else is waiting for that item. You can also renew your items online by clicking on Search Our Catalog, then logging into your account with your library card number and your password.

If you lose an item or damage it to the extent that it must be replaced, the library charges the actual cost of the item. You must pay for any fees before you can check out more items.

Patron account access from home

To access your library account from home, click on "Search Our Catalog."

When the page comes up, click on "Patron Account."

Next, you will be asked for a username. Your username is the account number found on the back of your library card. Currently, the library has issued 2 different types of library cards. If you have the white card with red lettering, DO NOT use the letter "P" as part of your username; type only the account number from the back of your library card. If you have a library card with a color picture of the library on the front, type the "p" (lower case or capital) followed by a space and then the account number.

Finally, enter your password to access your account. The following tabs are available:

  • My record
  • Items out
  • Requests
  • Fines & fees
  • Reading history
  • Saved searches

You may change your password, also. If you have any problems or questions, please call the library for assistance, 402-296-4154.

How much does the library charge to clean CDs or DVDs?

The library charges $2.00 per disc to clean a CD, DVD, or video game. It's great for cleaning up dirty or scratched discs.

How much does the library charge for laminating an item?

Small items like fishing licenses, Social Security cards, or any 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper can be laminated for $.50. Large items, up to 27 inches wide, can be laminated for $1.50 per foot of lamination.

I'd like to listen to audio or video on the computers in the library, but I don't have any headphones. What can I do?

The library has speakers on each computer, but we ask that headphones be used so you don't disturb other people using the computers. If you don't have headphones, the library sells earbuds for $3.00 each. You will have to remember to bring your headphones or earbuds when needed.

Interlibrary Loan

If you are interested in obtaining a book or other item that the library does not own, you may request that we borrow it from another library through interlibrary loan. It may take several days or more than a week, but you can provide us with a deadline, if necessary. We will get the item from the other library and return it when you are done with it. You are required to pay the return postage which generally ranges from $4.00 to about $5.50. Please call us if you have any questions.

Reading at Home (RAH)

If you are unable to visit the library due to a health condition or are temporarily restricted due to health issues, you may want to sign up for RAH. You may tell us a general category that you like to read or request specific titles. We will check them out in your name, and a volunteer will deliver the library materials to your home or apartment. Let us know if you have any questions or would like to register for this program.
